Yankee Sprinters Take Honors in Berlin

Jesse Owens finished 1st and Metcalfe 2nd in the 100 meter race. Wykoff finished 4th -- however, a few days later Wykoff anchored the 400 Meter relay team consisting of Foy Draper, Jesse Owens, and Ralph Metcalfe to victory.

Forrest Towns

1936 Olympic Gold - 110-meter hurdles -14.2s - Olympic record.

Foy Draper

1936 Olympic Gold - member of the 400 Meter relay run - 39.8s. Other members of the winning team consisted of Frank Wykoff, Jesse Owens, and Ralph Metcalfe

 

Glenn Hardin

1936 Olympic Gold (Tues. 8-04-36) - 400 Meter Hurdles - 52.4s. Hardin was from Mississippi.

Cornelius (Corny) Johnson

1936 Olympic Gold - (Sunday 8-02-36) High Jump - 6 feet 7 15/16 inches. Johnson lived in Compton, CA.

Earle Meadows

1936 Olympic Gold (Wednesday 8-05-36) - Pole Vault - Olympic record a fraction under 14' 3". Meadows was from Southern California.

 

Glenn Morris

1936 Olympic Gold - Decathlon - set a new Olympic record of 7,900 points. Morris lived in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Kenneth Carpenter

1936 Olympic Gold (Wednesday 8-05-36) - Discus Throw - 165' 7 29/64" (50.48 meters). Carpenter was from California.

 

 

Jack Medica

1936 Olympic Gold - Free-Style Swimming

Marjorie Gestring

1936 Olympic Gold - Fancy Diving 89.27 points. Gestring was from Southern California.
