they may lose the race -- as what happened to Frank Wykoff (the
national 100-yard champion), on May 5, 1929; allowing an
unexpected 1st place victory to Nate George
and 2nd place to Milton Mauer.
Charley Borah (the national 220 champion) had cramps, and Wykoff
looked back in concern for his friendly foe, and Nate George
followed the rules of contest, and rushed to the finish line.
