Foy Draper (1936 Olympics -- USA)
Perry Flippin Writes:

Dear Terri:
I have enjoyed reading about Frank Wykoff, but
also my relative Foy Draper. Foy was killed before
I was born, but the family stories about him and
his Olympic exploits have been a staple of my
life.
Your photos are the first I've seen of Foy. The
sports columns are
very interesting. Today, I finally found where Foy
is buried -- the American cemetery in Tunisia,
North Africa.
My mother was 5 years younger than Foy. They were
first cousins. She remembered Foy was the only
person she ever saw who could chase down a guinea.
I expect to be returning to your site often to
relive that 1936 Olympics and other interesting
highlights. You've done a great job building this
tribute.
All best,
Perry Flippin

Stiles-reporter)

Re above article by Maxwell Stiles, reprinted on
your Frank Wykoff website: As the daughter of
Maxwell Stiles, I think I can be 99.999% correct
in helping remove the question mark following the
reference to "Des Moines Newspaper?" I am
certain that my dad wrote the article while at the
Los Angeles Examiner. And though I "wasn't" in
1928 when the article appeared, I know Dad never
wrote for a Des Moines Newspaper in any official
capacity. In fact, I practically grew up in the
sports department of the L. A. Examiner or
outside, in the car with my mother and older
brother, waiting for Dad to finish his story --
usually long past our bedtime!
Also, "Glendale" refers to the Glendale in
Southern California, on the outskirts of L.A.
I enjoyed coming across the article while delving
into the depths of computer-dom (quite an
adventure in itself). Now, if I can find out how
move text without obliterating dozens of
previously cherished thoughts, I'm ready to tackle
most anything.
Best wishes -- Jeanine Bays
