APRIL, 1927
Frank Wykoff lost his first race of the
1927 Track & Field season while preparing for the Southern California
Championship race. He faced top contenders, and his coming in 4th
against the great sprinter, Charlie Borah, of the University of Southern
California allegedly didn't phase him at all. Included on the page is an
excerpt reprint of a newspaper article entitled "Wykoff Loses To S.C.
Star."
Reprint - excerpt of a
newspaper Article -- early April 1927:
"WYKOFF LOSES TO S.C. STAR"

Frank Wykoff and Charley Borah
"Borah Finishes First in Race With
Glendale Prep Flash"
Frank Wykoff was working
out with three other members of the Dynamiter relay team today in
preparation for the meet at the Los Angeles coliseum,
Saturday. Having been led to the tape for the first time this year
by Charley Borah, Trojan sprint
ace, in no way affected the Dynamiter. He and
Russ Slocum, who finished fourth, were the only high
school tracksters entered in the unlimited. class.
Spectators estimated Borah was two yards ahead of Frank and finished
the 100 yards in 9.8 seconds. Wykoff has made the distance in this
time or less on several occasions. So his run of Saturday must have
been slightly slower than his usual time. Perhaps the knowledge that
he was matched with the leading sprinter in collegiate ranks had its
subtle influence on the flying Dynamiter.
