FRANK WYKOFF'S NEW WORLD RECORD
MADE OFFICIAL NOVEMBER 18, 1930

Although there were several races that Frank Wykoff beat the
World Record official time in the 100 yard dash, most of his
accomplishments were ignored due to discrepancies of those
holding the clock -- and Frank's time of 9.4 seconds after
finishing the Centurion race at Occidental College on 5-10-30
did not get recognized immediately as an official new world
record by the International Union -- however, one month later at
Staggs Field in Chicago on June 7, 1930 , Frank Wykoff again
broke the World Record in 9.4 seconds without "starting blocks
at a NCAA championship event;" and it was at that time the
A.A.U. again approached the International Union and on November
18, 1930, Frank Wykoff was awarded the Official World Record
Title -- supplanting the 9.5 record granted to Eddie Tolan in
1929.
