Big Upset -- Frank Wykoff Defeats Foy Draper and
George Boone at the 1936 Pre-Olympic Track & Field Races.
"Frank Wykoff, world's 100-yard record-holder, today (5-20-36) had the
spotlight of the sports world focused upon him as the result of his
great victory last night in the pre-Olympic meet at Whittier college
when he staged a sensational "comeback" to win the 100-meter race from
Foy Draper and George Boone in 10.5 seconds. He is shown (above)
breaking the tape (ahead of) his rivals in this fast-time. This
was one-tenth of a second faster than he ran eight years ago in
winning the American Olympics trials and bettered his own mark of 10.6
seconds for the distance."
