FRANK WYKOFF
______________
DASH ACE RUNS RACE IN 8.7S
____________
RIVERSIDE, June 9 (1934). (exclusive) Frank Wykoff, the Glendale boy who
startled the world by his record-breaking performances as a prep
sprinter back in 1927, 1928, and 1929, (30-31-32) today ran his
"last race of the century" of his short but colorful competitive
career. And he established a new world's record.
Running in a special race to attempt a new mark in the "flying
100-yard dash," Wykoff broke the mark he set two weeks ago. He
was clocked in 8.7s. by accredited A.A.U. officials.
Wykoff was running in the feature attraction during the (?) annual
Times Zone Junior Pentathlon Championships.
Two weeks ago Wykoff was timed in 8.8s in the Los Angeles county
Time Zone Junior Pentathlon Championship at Long
Beach. His feat
that day broke the established record which was credited to Charlie Paddock, a
famous Pasadena sprinter, in 8.8s. and which he hung up in 1922.
