A Glendale Newspaper - Friday - July 13, 1928
Regarding the above drawing:

Among a number of ideas for cartoons, suggested by
schoolmates (Glendale High School) of Frank Wykoff, Major
Reese draws the one above.
It was suggested by a dainty schoolmate, who graciously posed
for the figure of Miss Glendale waving good luck to the fastest
runner in the world.
Glendale is proud of the record of Frank Wykoff. His
feats of nosing Paddock out of the arena
(6-16-28), and later
equaling the world's record in four sprinting events in a single
day (7-7-28), stands alone.
This was a feat that only youth, and clean youth could
accomplish. A great deal of glory goes to the athletes of
America and the enthusiasm of Glendale is justified.
With the many California members of the the Olympic team,
Frank Wykoff is now on the Atlantic ocean, board of the
President Roosevelt, on his way to Amsterdam.
He will compete with the runners of all nations, for the
champion of the world.
So it is fitting to wish him good luck and fair weather and
let him know how much we hope he will bring back to Glendale the
bay leaf wreath that designates the fastest human on earth.
Remember, Frank, your folks and schoolmates and even the staid
business people of Glendale are all rooting for you.
And the Herald joins them all in wishing. "Good
luck, Frank take 'keer' of yourself."
