1930 - NEW KINGS AND QUEENS
By the end of the year 1930, Frank Wykoff, had usurped both titles as the
"Fastest Human;" and the "New King" of the Cinder Path from Charley Paddock.

Here are four athletes who were made rulers in their respective
specialties Monday by the National A. A. U. board approving their records.
Frank Wykoff, former Des Moines boy, shown in the upper right was
christened
"fastest human" when the board accepted his mark of 9 2-5 seconds for the
100-yard dash, made in California
(Occidental
College - May 10, 1930) early this year.
The body approved twenty-six swimming records hung up by Helene Madison
(lower left) pretty Washington miss. Several of Stella Walsh's
records, made during the indoor track campaign last season were also
accepted. She is shown in the upper left. Herman Brix (lower right)
Los Angeles Athletic club shot-putter, was recognized as the world's best
when the A. A. U. okayed his mark of 52 feet 5.75 inches.
